about

Freewave is a small collection of songs that call upon themes of hiding away in the face of malice and opening up in the embrace of love.

In collaboration with Zachary Degnan (Quincy Raw), the opening track Animals / Unfamiliar Sun presents a narrative about an animal being forced to cohabit with humans and lose the habitat it has always known. The track displays a perfect pairing of nature and machine as organic percussion hits and acoustic guitar meld with pillowy synths. The song eventually descends into an abrasive cloud of electronic glitches and whirs, symbolising the encroachment of humans into the animal's home. This metaphorical nature of the song reflects Orr's personal experience of predatory behaviour during his teenage years.

Up next is ‘Words in the Wind’. A hypnotic rake across Orr’s guitar is the central pillar of this mantra-like piece. The guitar intertwines with rhythmic oddities that sound strangely familiar but belong to a world of their own. Swirls of electronica surround you with precision and intent, the gradual transition between sections leaving you somewhat disoriented as the decaying synths act as distant memories.

All organic elements are relinquished for the closing track, ‘Freewave’. Waves of dense ambient textures spill over each other, enveloping the listener as the song progresses.
